The building and flying of radio controlled airplanes has become the hobby of choice for thousands of people. Radio controlled airplanes have fallen in price to where they are affordable for many thousands of people that have long stymied their wish to fly. Now they can satisfy this urge by flying a radio controlled plane.

One doesn't have to be skilled with his hands to join this hobby sector. Many different models are available as "ready-to-fly (RTF= Readty To Fly) airplanes or helicopters. There are also the ARF or almost ready to fly and for those that have the skills to do so, there are kits that you build from scratch.

There are many places where flying is permissible and many others that you can fly from without getting permission. The absolute best choice would be an abandoned airport with their vast expanses of concrete. Another good place would the an empty parking lot somewhere. Many of the radio controlled airplane groups have formed into clubs and have leased places where they can hold meets or just have week-end recreation. I was given a small radio controlled helicopter that was intended to fly indoors! It was fascinating. If you are unsure about whether you could fly these planes, then find out about your community groups and see if there is a flying club available. You will find many people in these clubs that will be happy to be your mentor. Visit a hobby store and you will probably find plenty of information available to get you started.
