Picking and Choosing Your Electric Remote Controlled Car or Truck

The important thing to remember when buying your electric rc car or truck is to determine your needs, where you will be running your remote controlled vehicle. In order to be satisfied, you must choose a vehicle that suits your needs, budget, and circumstances in which you will run your remote controlled car. You will find as many selections much like you would find if you were preparing to buy a full sized vehicle. There are kits available for onroad and offroad, different sizes, and many different styles including stadium trucks, rc monster trucks, buggies, sedans, I caution all beginners start with an RC car from a reputable hobby quality manufacturer like Team Associated, HPI, and Traxxas. There are cheaper toy style kits from companies like Tyco and Nikko available.

Ready to run kits (RTR)are great for beginners. These come prebuilt and normally will have everything you need to get started. For electric rc cars and trucks, the kit should at least include a motor, a radio, servo, receiver, and an electronic speed control. If you decide to go with a build-it-yourself kit, then you will need to make sure you have accumulated all of these components.

You can tune the electric motor from your kit to obtain more speed or power but you absolutely must follow a poroper  proper break-in from the start to get optimum performance and life from the engine. If you break the unit in properly you will get less heat and wear.  There are exotic methods of breaking in the motor but simply running it with the motor installed and the wheels off the ground with your control about 1/4 open is really all you need do. This should be done for about 5 minutes and serves to seat the brushes to the commutator.  Remember, that anytime you replace the brushes due to wear, you must follow this same procedure to seat the new brushes..
