The Perfect RC Plane For The Beginner

Fly Zone Playmate

Flying RC planes (Radio controlled airplanes) can be an expensive hobby, especially for the beginner. As with any device that leaves the open arms of mother earth, there is a risk of a crash upon the return to earth. Ince you have developed an interest in flying RC planes, you will begin your search for a radio controlled airplane where you can indulge this newfound itch.

I started my efforts with an RC helicopter that cost $39.95. The first one would go up but would not move laterally or down until the battery was deleted. Continuing my search, I recently came across the Flyzone Playmate, a very small RC plane that falls into the micro category. As you can easily deduce, micro denotes small and the Playmate is indeed small. That not withstanding, it is a lot of fun to fly, and beyond that, it is easy. It is designated as RTF, which in RC enthusiasts terminology, means ready to fly. Upon taking it from its carton, you merely have to install the batteries into the transmitter and charge the LIPO battery and you are ready to launch your Playmate.

The Playmate does not have landing gear, making the launch process simple. You rev up the battery powered electric engine and gently toss it into the air and you are flying. The transmitter has two controls, the throttle and the rudder and elevator. When you are getting low on battery power (After about 10 minutes) you bring it in close to you and pluck it from the air. If you run out of battery power, gravity takes over and does the landing for you. All in all, the Playmate RC plane is a lot of fun, short learning curve and at about $75, it won't break your budget.
