Learn To Fly Radio Controlled Airplanes Responsibly

By Abhishek Agarwal
Making radio controlled airplanes involves a lot of money though it could be just a hobby. You will have to be ready to spend enough in making planes and enjoy the hobby. A plane model is necessary and should be bought along with other motor and radio equipment. To run these radio controlled planes you will need nitro or a battery, so you would have to pay for electricity to recharge batteries or buy the nitro. Therefore, making a radio controlled airplane is an expensive venture. It is going to be upsetting to see your plane crash, after all the good work and money which has gone into the making. It could be the worst feeling to see all the components of it get destroyed. So while flying your rc plane for the very first time, you should take all precautionary measures so that you don't ruin the plane and also waste money. Following the guidelines diligently and will ensure your plane is safe for flying.
The choice of the day and place to fly your radio controlled airplane requires some thinking. Choose an ideal day with clear skies and minimal wind. Make sure it is a warm day in the park, so it doesn't jeopardize the mission. You should be going to a spot where take-off would be smooth and ideal. An excellent place will be somewhere there are few obstructions. In our area, I have spotted several places with large parking lots that are empty on weekends. Roads and sidewalks are also good places for this activity. You should also ensure there aren't houses or trees in the vicinity and preferably not many people around. Having houses or trees could prove costly as your rc plane might wind up between the branches of the trees. If your area has a radio controlled airplane club, they will have an ideal place to fly your rc plane. Also, it will be a great place to find a mentor.
While you might be a professional, you still have to check all the equipment before taking your RC plane to the air. If it is faulty it might prove costly. Checking the plane once or twice before flying is a wise and prudent move. The plane should have the strength and stay rigid while landing the plane on whichever surface you have planned to land on. Checking the connections between the fuel supply or batteries and the motor is very essential. Test the engine and radio equipment methodically and ask a friend for help if needed.
Now, set your radio controlled airplane on a smooth surface which can act as a runway and suitable for take-off. If you choose a park, make sure the sidewalks you have chosen have enough room for the airplane to roll, gain speed and take-off. Try to prevent people from walking close to the runway. If everything goes well, you should be able to lift smoothly in the air without much difficulty. Hopefully you should know the nuances of flying the airplane and be able to control it properly. Every radio controller is unique so necessary adjustments have to be made while flying. You should read your manual thoroughly before attempting anything.
You will have to do another inspection after each flight in the airplane. If it had all started well and the flight was smooth and without difficulty, you probably won't have a problem. However, inspecting the plane irrespective of the success of the flight is very important. If you spot a flaw in the airplane its better to repair it immediately rather than the next time you intend to fly.
Follow all the instructions and step by step procedure and have a safe flight. Make sure you don't disobey any local law and cause trouble for people around. Flying radio controlled planes is a worthwhile and rewarding activity which can be enjoyed and cherished if proper guidelines are followed and implemented properly.
